Wedding Scary...

Suggestion... even when a coordinator is supposed to be day of set up, coordination, or what ever the case may be... The cake catering company must always get signed off for where they will be leaving the cake as well as the agreement of the appearance. All signatures given by one person, the coordinator of course.

So when a color scheme is black, white, and yellow... the cake is most likely not supposed to be cream and boo boo pastey brown.

when flowers are supposed to be orchids and then Bright gold roses shows up... there is a problem!

Learn something every event I tell ya!

Too many cooks in the kitchen...

As a coordinator it can be difficult when you have a venue that has it's own coordinator, that is if that person wants to be the one in control of everything at their venue. It's understandable that they feel this way or that the venue will have them in place for a reason, but it does present issues when they sign off on a cake delivery, tell a staff member to lead the baker to the kitchen to put the cake in the cooler until the florist arrives, then forget where the cake is.

The florist called frantic because she couldn't find anyone who knew where the cake was and she wasn't supposed to set up the cake, just decorate it with the flowers. After several rounds of back and forth calls to the baker and the venue we finally found the cake, had someone at the venue place it on the table (it was already assembled in the cooler), and the florist was able to do her job.

The issues observed here are the reasons that every bride should have a coordinator. What bride wants to deal with this kind of stress while she is getting ready to walk down the aisle? None that I know of and none of the brides I work for have to, thankfully!

That makes me think....

Any more scary stories to tell?

Now no bad mouthing or nastiness.  Maybe we flip this idea and turn it into- success stories from planners.

I'm sure most planners have a story to tell about unusual circumstances that were overcome which resulted in success, or something learned through experience at a wedding.

So, let's hear them.

Who's got a story to tell?

Suggestions for getting started

Hi briallady-

For one thing, if you're just starting out, Wedding ProSource is a good place to be.  Upload some images of your work for potential clients.

If you are really just getting started, there are some terrific books at Amazon that give you good ideas on beginning your wedding planning business.

I typed in "How to become a wedding planner" and got some good choices for books that were highly rated.  Maybe you want to start there.

Good luck!

Reid
